Happy summer everyone. We hope that everyone is getting outside and enjoying a more normal summer. We thought it time for another update on where we are with Covid-19.

Legacy is thrilled to be able to vaccinate our patients 12 years old and older. We have Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine in stock and encourage all those eligible to get vaccinated. Getting vaccinated is the way out of this pandemic and the way to be able to feel confident you are protecting yourself and your family. Give the office a call to schedule a nurse visit appointment for the vaccine.

Legacy now has Covid-19 rapid PCR testing capabilities in our office. We can do our own testing for Covid-19 with a turnaround time of less than an hour using a test that is accepted by schools, camps, and workplaces.

Legacy continues with NO walk-ins from 8:00 – 9:00 am; we are unable to have sick patients sitting in our waiting room due to Covid-19. If your child is ill and needs to be seen, give the office a call and we will see your child that day. We continue to use our backdoor access for sick patients.

Masks are required in medical facilities for EVERYONE over 3 years old regardless of vaccine status. Please help us by wearing a mask while in our office.

Lastly, I am asked multiple times a day when I think Covid-19 vaccines will be available for children under 12 years old. Currently, the Pfizer study for children 6 months up to 12 years old is underway and everything is running smoothly. Based on the timeline, my best guess for EUA authorization for the 5-to-11-year age group is sometime around Halloween. The younger age groups should become eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine around the end of the year, beginning of 2022. This is my best guess as I march out the timeline of the current Pfizer study underway. A pediatric Moderna Covid-19 study is just getting started worldwide in the next few weeks so it will be well into 2022 for a Moderna Covid-19 vaccine to be available to children.
