Office Policies
After-Hours Phone Policy
For urgent medical questions outside of regular hours, please call 585-568-8330 to reach our answering service. A physician on call or a triage nurse will return your call as soon as possible, offering medical advice and assessing if urgent care is needed. During peak winter months, the wait time may be up to an hour, so if you don’t receive a call back within that period, please follow up with the answering service.
A physician is always on-call and accessible by phone around the clock. Whenever possible, we encourage you to reach out during office hours with non-urgent health questions, so that your child’s records are accessible to the nurse or doctor assisting you.
Appointment Scheduling
Each child is assigned a primary care pediatrician. While we aim to have your child see their primary provider at each visit, if this is not feasible, another qualified provider in our team will be available. Our physicians and physician assistant work collaboratively to ensure every patient receives high-quality care.
Medication Refill Policy
General Refills:
- For routine refills (excluding controlled substances), please request through your pharmacy, which will then submit the request electronically.
- For chronic conditions, if your child has not had a recent visit (within the past 6 months, or 4 months for ADHD, depression, and anxiety), we will issue a one-month prescription and ask you to book an appointment. Additional refills will be provided only once your child is up-to-date with follow-up visits and physicals.
- If your child hasn’t taken the medication in over 6 months, a follow-up visit is required before a new prescription can be issued.
- If the medication hasn’t been taken for more than a year, a full re-evaluation visit is needed before prescribing.
Controlled Medications (e.g., ADHD):
- ADHD medications are classified as controlled substances, requiring the prescriber to submit the prescription electronically. Regulations also require checking the NYS Bureau of Narcotics database prior to issuance.
- To avoid delays, please notify our office at least a week before a refill is needed, as processing these requests may take up to 3-4 days.
Immunization Policy
Vaccines are critical in preventing serious diseases. Our team at Legacy Pediatrics fully supports the use of vaccinations to safeguard the health of our patients. While we are open to discussing any questions or concerns you may have about vaccine safety and efficacy, families who choose not to vaccinate should seek care from a practice aligned with their views. We follow immunization schedules recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
