Janet R. Casey, MD
is Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. Dr. Casey received her undergraduate degree from Stanford University followed by her medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. She completed her postgraduate pediatric residency at the University of Washington in Seattle, followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at Duke University with emphasis in infectious diseases of the immunocompromised host. Dr. Casey is the owner of Legacy Pediatrics where she practices primary care and as a sub specialist consultant. Dr. Casey heads up the research team at Legacy Pediatrics where she has acted as the Principal Investigator for many research grants and continues to partner with other researchers across the country. She has published numerous articles and chapters on ambulatory pediatric infectious disease topics. Her major practice and research interests are in otitis media, streptococcal infections, lower respiratory infections, and vaccine development. She has two grown children (along with three fur children) and lives in Pittsford with her husband, Dr. Kevin Casey.
Alice L. Taylor, M.D.
grew up in Fairport and graduated from Fairport High School before attending Purdue University where she received a degree in Pharmacy. After working as a pharmacist for several years, she returned to school and received her medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine. She then came home to Rochester to complete her pediatric residency at the University of Rochester. She remains there as Assistant Professor in Pediatrics, having worked in both the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit as well as the Newborn Nursery caring for babies. In 2004, she transitioned to Highland Hospital and became Medical Director of the Special Care Nursery. She was honored as Highland Hospital’s Distinguished Physician of the Year in 2012. Her love for babies is paralleled by her love for primary care and she has worked as a general pediatrician in the Rochester area since 2000. She is thrilled to be a part of the Legacy Pediatrics team and continue their tradition of providing excellent care to her patients, old and new. Dr. Taylor lives in Pittsford with her husband Jeff and her dogs Daisy and Skipper, while her two daughters are off at college.
Kate D. Shand, PA-C, IBCLC
has been a PA for over 10 years in primary care. Besides seeing patients for acute visits and physicals, she also serves as our lactation consultant, helping moms and babies in those first few weeks after birth with breastfeeding help/questions.
She is also a Clinical Instructor for the PA Program at Rochester Institute of Technology. She received her degree from RIT in 2004 graduating Summa Cum Laude (highest honors). During her training, she completed multiple rotations including orthopedics, surgery, OB/GYN, neonatal ICU training, pediatrics, internal medicine, geriatrics, emergency medicine, psychiatry, and inpatient medicine. She has worked in both family medicine and internal medicine prior to joining our group. Kate D. Shand, PA-C, IBCLC is board certified with the National Commission on Certification of PAs and is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Society for PAs in Pediatrics, the American Academy of PAs, the New York State Society of PAs, and the Rochester Regional PA Association. Kate works in our office Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and has a close working relationship with both Dr. Janet Casey and Dr. Alice Taylor and their patients. She is married to Ryan Shand and they live in Pittsford with their two sons, Mark and James.
Kristin Campe, LCSW, PA-C works per diem in our practice and started with us after graduating from the RIT Physician Assistant Program in May 2013. Kristin was introduced to the Legacy team while completing her pediatrics rotation at Legacy in September 2012. Kristin serves as an integral part of our practices’ evaluation and treatment of behavioral, emotional, and psychiatric issues. Prior to PA training, she worked in the mental health field as a psychiatric social worker for 12 years. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Keuka College in 2000, followed by an accelerated Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Boston University in 2001. Post-graduate work in Boston involved working in a juvenile detention center with court-placed youth, as well as a neurorehabilitation center working with children with traumatic brain injury and neurological disease. Prior to her acceptance to PA school, she worked as an outpatient mental health therapist in Rochester. In tandem with this, she brings with her 11 years of experience in acute psychiatry, performing psychiatric evaluations in a busy psychiatric emergency department. Additional PA training included rotations in emergency medicine, surgery, orthopedics, internal medicine, and psychiatry, to name a few. Kristin is board certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, and the Rochester Regional Physician Assistant Association (RRPAA). Kristin is also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of New York. Kristin lives in Rochester with her husband and two young children.
